Should I buy a puppy from a pet store that get them from Puppy Mills?

There is this pet store but the puppies are from a puppy mill so I want to know if it would be a good idea to buy one so I could give it a good home, but I also have 1 dog and 2 cats so could that puppy maybe give my pets a disease or something?

    get a puppy

  2. Ally :) says:

Its better to get them from a breeder, definitely healthier. Though, I’ve always had that question myself, i decided its better not to take risks.

  3. moondog says:

If you buy a pup from a pet store you are supporting puppy mills.
    You already know that.

  4. everythingspeachy2000 says:

I wouldn’t. As cute as they are and as badly as they need homes….I know two people that did that and they both spent HUNDREDS of dollars at the vets after they got them home. One even died…

they really need to stop those puppy mills…it is so inhumane.

  5. Yawn says:

No, your money will only go to put another pet from a puppy/kitten mill in that window. Helping that one dog will keep its replacement, its mom, and the stud dog used to create it living in the puppy mills. Save a dog from a shelter and open up a space to save one more animal.

  6. **DANY** says:

No, you are encouraging those DAMN PUPPY MILLS to keep breeding! Don’t purchase from back yard breeders either!

Go to your local animal shelter and get a pup from there. They need homes desperately! They only have a few days in the shelter system to find a home. If their time runs out… They are euthanized… Please go to a shelter. I got my best friend from one!

  7. Goldenly Addicted says:

Why get a badly bred, ill puppy from a pet store? You’re only supporting the puppy mills. Get one healthy bred, quality puppy from a reputable breeder. You will be able to find a few near you. Or if you don’t care about what breed you want, then get one from a shelter.

  8. samantha.ann_keo says:

IF you know they’re from puppy mills, why even ask? Have you seen how they treat those puppies there? You’d just be supporting the mill run if you did buy one.

  9. MamaBas says:

Absolutely no. Why would you ask?

  10. suburbancow says:

No! Do not buy from a pet store that gets its puppies from puppy mills. You may feel sorry for the pup, and it does deserve a good home but if you buy it you will only be supporting the puppy mill industry and the pet store will buy more from the puppy mill since people are buying.

Puppymill dogs usually are riddled with health problems, from heart murmurs to hip dysplasia to neurological disorders which can all get VERY VERY expensive. The people that breed these dogs only care about money and will breed animals with heath problems just to make a buck.

Instead go to a rescue or your local dog pound where there are plenty of dogs and puppies looking for good homes! Plus they are already spayed or neutered so you will be helping to curb the pet overpopulation problem. Pet store dogs are very expensive anyway, so you will be paying 1500+ to buy the dog plus any problems it comes with which you could be paying thousands more in vet bills. I hope you decide to adopt a dog!

  11. Julie says:

No, don’t. By buying a dog from a pet store who buys from a puppy mill, you are giving money to the puppy mill.

If you really want to rescue a dog, consider getting one from the humane society.

  12. Sharpiewritin says:

If u Buy it and your giving money to the puppy mill owner who is just gonna continue it
Plus those dogs are overpriced, and very unhealthy!
They die at an early age too!
Believe me if you want to give a dog a good home go to this website http://www.petfinder.com/index.html

  13. Myndi says:

Definitely stay away from puppy mill puppies. I know its tempting to “rescue the poor thing and give it a good home!” But, what happens when you rescue that puppy? They shove another sickly puppy into that tiny cage and pay no attention to it. And the money you paid to rescue your puppy makes it way back to the puppy mill, enabling them to breed more puppies to stock petstore cages. Then someone else comes along and rescues that puppy, and another takes its place and a whole new litter is bred. The cycle’s endless.

And then there’s the sickness factor. Puppymill puppies are genetic timebombs. Not only are they known for coming down with parvo, kennel cough, worms, etc, but puppy millers don’t care about their general health. As long as they look cute enough to fool someone into buying them, they get shipped off. Do you think the parents have health testing done? Or are even in good health for that matter? What about temperament? Most puppymill dogs aren’t socialized at all, except to be bred and, if they get lucky, fed. Then, there’s the nasty conditions that puppies are born into, which they’re lucky to survive, but often lead to disorders later in life.

  14. Gin and Juice says:

please dont. these poor animals…lets just leave it at that.
please adopt from local animal shelters, so many animals are abandoned there and unfortunetly over half that show up there are euthinized (killed) because they cannot find homes.

    go to http://www.petfinder.com/index.html
for all of the info you need

the animals here are all usually spayed and all of that process

    please consider it :)

  15. sharp eye *gotta hate BYBs* says:

if you buy one there you are gonna support puppy mills.
if you want a dog go to a rescue or a shelter…or you can go on :

    http://www.petfinder.com/index.html

  16. Gina says:

Dont buy it from the store. Puppy mills can only keep going if people keep buying the pups so dont encourage them by buying one. You may feel you are helping that pup but it may be riddled with infections and diseases. Go to a reputable breedre or shelter.

If everyone stopped buying from BYB and puppy mills they would cease to exist

  17. Little Bird says:

Puppy mills and pet stores are often intertwined. Pet stores who buy stock from puppy mills are only exacerbating the problem, and supporting them is a bad idea, unless you too want to perpetuate the practice.
Beyond the moral reasons, yes, it’s also highly likely you’re going to have health problems. If you’re lucky, the dog/puppy will have been pretreated for kennel cough, heart worm, fleas, and any of the other hazards that are rampant in puppy mills, but you’ve still got the health of your new dog to worry about. Even if it doesn’t bring in any thing to give to your dogs, puppy mill dogs are often unhealthy by nature; born form bad breeding and over bred dogs, denied the nutrients a normal mother dog would be able to provide; and prone to a variety of eye, ear, throat and other illnesses.
Tea cup varieties are a perfect example of this myth~ there is no such thing as a tea cup sized breed~ but many people clamored ot buy one of these pint sized dogs that look like dwarfs compared to the rest of their breed; including Chihuahuas. In actuality, this was just a money-hungry person cashing in on the trend of small dogs; who took two abnormally small Chihuahua’s, and bred them to create a smaller version. However, they come with a host of issues, and are far more inclined to inclement health than one born from a healthy, regular adult.
Puppy mill dogs also live in squallor most of the time; which contributes to the disease issue; as well as their personality. Most of these dogs spent the first part of their lives living in a cage the size of a shoe box, with their mother and other siblings; in their own filth; and were only removed when ready to be sold. if they made it to the pet store, they may have gotten their own cage; but regardless, animals who are caged for extended periods often develop nervous ticks and what’s called cage aggression.
While i certainly commend your motive, you’d really do the pet world a favor by buying or adopting a dog/puppy from a kennel, pound, or rescue. Big dogs- or adult ones- are often put down for no offense other than being there too long; and can be just as- if not more- satisfying to own, since you’ve probably already got one out of those destructive puppy years.
But if you have your heart set on a puppy, you can still find plenty of those at your area kennel; and if not there, at a rescue; and most often, for a fraction of the price.
When i got my first dog, i went to the pet store; and they wanted $900.00 for a puppy. I walked out, picked up the paper, and found one at a rescue group for $50; which included (as do most kennels and pounds) shots, heart worm testing and spay/neuter.
If you only want a specific breed, and can’t find one after a few weeks at a shelter, jump on craigslist and start looking for rescues specializing in that breed. It may take a little Ionger to find your new buddy, but it will be well worth the wait.
    Good luck!

  18. Like a Fox says:

    No.
    Do not encourage the trade
Buy from a reputable breeder or adopt from a shelter.

Puppies from mills are often inbred, badly treated, in fowl conditions and are often ill. Some die within weeks of them being bought.

  19. Marilyn W says:

Absolutely not ! ! Have you not seen all of the stories on
puppy mills on TV. You can not trust them . The dogs are
treated very inhumanely. These dogs can also have
many problems with them. There are thousands of dogs
being killed at shelters because no one wants them.
If you really want another dog go to a shelter near you.
When you get a dog from a shelter you know that it
has been checked over & his/her health is in good shape.
I know the dogs at the stores are really cute but as long
as people keep buying them the puppy mills will keep on
breeding. The puppy mills need to be stopped & buying
one of their dogs is not going to do that.
We got our first dog (a german shepherd ) from a pet store
& her hips were suppose to be certified that she didn’t
hip displaysia & she had the worst case that my vet had
    ever seen.
PLEASE, PLEASE get your dog from a shelter. Save a
    dogs life!!

  20. Amanda says:

don’t ever get dogs from puppy mills. they only breed them for money and let them die, poop, sleep, and eat in the same place so the dog probably hurt, sick or worse. if you want a dog give a puppy mill dog a 2nd chance by going to the pound and pick one. it saves a life or get a dog from a breeder. it will be healthier for you and your other pets but not as helpful to other abandoned dogs.
    just to summaries:
1 puppy mill dogs don’t help only hurt
2 give a dog a second chance, save a life, go to the pound(the humane society kills if not adopted)
3 adopt from breeder, healthier and better for you and your dogs with guaranteed great
4 don’t adopt, nothing will change for you

pick what you want wisely or don’t pick at all, your choice!!!
